June, 2002 - InternetSecure is the FIRST payment
processor in Canada to provide the protection of the new Verified
by Visa program to thousands of businesses.
Verified by Visa addresses the top 2 e-commerce issues:
Increased Customer Confidence
The number one reason that shoppers do not make purchases
online is because they have concerns about security.
Significantly Reduce Financial Risk for e-commerce Businesses
The biggest frustration for Internet businesses is the
risk of chargebacks if a shopper claims that they did not
authorize an Internet purchase with their credit card.
What is Verified by Visa?
It is a simple process that verifies the cardholder's identity
by use of a password, and takes only seconds to use. Your
customers can feel comfortable using their credit card to
purchase from your site. And more importantly for you the
merchant, if a customer were to dispute a charge by saying
"it wasn't me who made the purchase" - the transaction
will NOT be charged back to your business! What
is a chargeback?
VbV has been used in the United States by cardholders for
over a year and millions of Americans are enrolled in the
program. In addition, banks around the world, including Canadian
banks are racing to promote this to their cardholders.
"Since 56% of all transactions processed by InternetSecure
for our merchants come from US cardholders, businesses using
our payment services will experience the benefits of Verified
by Visa immediately!", said Rick Nugent, Chairman and
CEO of InternetSecure. "In addition, more and more Canadian
Visa issuers are offering Verified by Visa to their cardholders."
Watch for similar initiatives by other credit card associations,
including MasterCard SecureCode...coming soon!

What is a Chargeback?
Non-face-to-face Business Risk
A chargeback occurs when a customer contacts the financial
institution that issued their credit card to dispute a charge
to that card. "It wasn't me, I didn't make a purchase
from this business."
The bank then issues a "chargeback" (sometimes
in the form of a "clear copy request") which means
that the funds for the sale are deducted from the merchant's
bank account. The business has the opportunity to defend the
charge by providing proof of purchase, but until recently
this was very difficult for businesses doing non-face-to-face
InternetSecure's fraud detection and risk management features,
including Verified by Visa for all merchants, minimizes the
risk of chargebacks for businesses conducting non-face-to-face
